Bone cancer patient Nurul Atikah Bazilah Samsudin



TAIPING: Bone cancer patient Nurul Atikah Bazilah Samsudin was awestruck when she was given the chance to speak to her idol on the phone.

Hearing the voice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the 14-year-old broke into a big smile.

Her father, Kpl Samsudin Hasbullah said the phone call, although lasting less than 10 minutes yesterday morning, had made his daughter's day.

“She idolises our Prime Minister and had always wanted to meet him. He is her role model as are all our previous prime ministers,” he said during a visit by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir to their home in Kamunting near here.

Dr Zambry, after learning about Nurul Atikah Bazilah's wish to speak to Najib, had called him on the telephone.

During the brief conversation, Najib asked the girl, who is suffering from Stage Four cancer, how she was doing and also about her parents.

Nurul Atikah Bazilah, whose speech is impaired due to her condition, put up a great effort to wish Najib a “Selamat Hari Raya” at the end of their conversation.

The girl was diagnosed with bone cancer two years ago and has since undergone 12 surgeries.

“She is in constant pain and needs morphine to cope with the effects of the cancer,” said Kpl Samsudin.

Commending Nur Atikah Bazilah for her bravery, Dr Zambry said she had shown great strength in overcoming her pain merely to talk to Najib.

‘Khairul Didn’t Say Anything’ – Apex’s Fiancee


KUALA LUMPUR – “I know nothing about him wanting to call off our engagement. I only found that out from the newspaper (Metro Ahad) today (yesterday),” said Aimie Harmelia Mohd Hashumi, 22, the fiancee of Malaysia’s number one goalkeeper, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.
In regards to that, Aimie Harmelia, also known as Elia, denied claims that Khairul Fahmi decided to call off the engagement after discussing with her.

“He didn’t say anything about his decision (call off engagement), all of the sudden he came up with statement from the papers and that put my family and I in shock,” she said when contacted by hmetro.com.my.

Elia said that the conflict in their relationship had been going on for the past month and what’s worse is that when Khairul Fahmi wouldn’t see her to settle their problems.
“When called to discuss, excuses were made. I even went and met him after the friendly match between the national squad and Liverpool, middle of last month to settle our problem, even then, he rejected it,” she said.

Regarding Khairul Fahmi’s statement where he didn’t call off their engagement because of a third person, Elia stressed that the statement is just part of Khairul Fahmi’s tricks to ‘save himself’ as there are a lot of proof that showed that he has relationships with other women.

“To me, the real reason for our problem is because of the third person and I do have solid proof on that. Maybe that’s the reason why he doesn’t want to see me,” she claimed.
Elia said, she figured out about the third person in their relationship since early July through various signs, even after she had made her own research, she believes that Khairul Fahmi have been having relationship with another woman even since before they were engaged.

“I called him to confirm about it and to be straight with me, he didn’t do that. He just said that there are problems and he will talk about it with his family.
“I never stop praying that Allah would put a stop to our problems. Never thought that not long after that, a woman came to me and admitted that she does have a special relationship with Khairul Fahmi,” she said.

Answering a question, Elia admitted that she did come u out with a statement on Facebook regarding Khairul Fahmi’s actions of yelling and shouting to her mother (Elia’s).
“Maybe that was my mistake, but soon after that, I kept quiet and didn’t come out with anymore statement as it could give time to him to fix things. Never thought that he had made up his mind and spread it through newspaper without discussing the matter with me first,”  Elia said that she truly regrets Khairul Fahmi’s actions, calling off their engagement as she had made a few preparations for their wedding that is supposed to take place this October.

Meanwhile, Elia’s mother who doesn’t want her name to be published said, although she’s sad with what had happened, she is still grateful that Allah had shown everything before her daughter’s wedding was held.
“But, I would want him (Khairul Fahmi) to settle things nicely. Back then, when he was asking for Elia’s hand in marriage from me nicely, he should end it nicely as well, not like this,” she said.

[Alert] Motorcyclist Attackers

Be on alert for suspicious motorcyclists, public advised


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have advised the public to be extra vigilant against splashers using corrosive liquid who have been targeting innocent pedestrians around Kuala Lumpur for over a month.

City police deputy chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Amar Singh said the public should watch over each other and keep a lookout for motorcyclists behaving suspiciously.

“Currently, we believe the suspects are of dark complexion and riding either a Honda EX-5 or a Yamaha motorcycle.

Fake Eggs from China!

Beware u guys and girls!

During a recent raid on a wholesale centre in Guangzhou city, the capital of China 's Guangdong province, a large quantity of fake eggs was seized.

Their wholesale price is 0.15 yuan (S$0.03) each - half the price of a real egg.

Consumers have a hard time telling a genuine egg from a fake one. This is good news for unscrupulous entrepreneurs, who are even conducting three-day courses in the production of artificial eggs for less than S$150. A reporter with Hong Kong-based Chinese magazine East Week enrolled in one such course.

To create egg white, the instructor - a woman in her 20s - used assorted ingredients such as gelatin, an unknown powder, benzoic acid, coagulating material and even alum, which is normally used for industrial processes.

How to improve my grammar and vocab?

Today I want to tell about how to improve our vocabulary and grammar....
First off all, kudos to you for wanting to improve yourself.

Reading is a huge help to both grammar and vocabulary. While you are reading a book, any time you see a word that you don't know, or are only a little familiar with, write it down on one of the blank pages at the back of the book. Then every evening, look those words up in the dictionary. Try to use at least one new word in a conversation every week. If you find that you like to read, I recommend joining a book club. Talking with people about a common subject, particularly a book, is a great way to practice your improving vocabulary and grammar.

A grammar class or grammar book could also be helpful, but I have to say that they are both boring and difficult. Having a friend who is willing to correct your writing or speech is much easier and more fun.

Finally, you should know that even amongst those people with extremely high vocabularies and excellent grammar skills, most people only use a limited vocabulary on a day-to-day basis. English grammar can be tricky enough that even as a professional writer, I commonly consulted my grammar book (Strunk & White). So don't be too down on yourself for your English shortcomings, because they are very common.
