Bone cancer patient Nurul Atikah Bazilah Samsudin

TAIPING: Bone cancer patient Nurul Atikah Bazilah Samsudin was awestruck when she was given the chance to speak to her idol on the phone.

Hearing the voice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the 14-year-old broke into a big smile.

Her father, Kpl Samsudin Hasbullah said the phone call, although lasting less than 10 minutes yesterday morning, had made his daughter's day.

“She idolises our Prime Minister and had always wanted to meet him. He is her role model as are all our previous prime ministers,” he said during a visit by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir to their home in Kamunting near here.

Dr Zambry, after learning about Nurul Atikah Bazilah's wish to speak to Najib, had called him on the telephone.

During the brief conversation, Najib asked the girl, who is suffering from Stage Four cancer, how she was doing and also about her parents.

Nurul Atikah Bazilah, whose speech is impaired due to her condition, put up a great effort to wish Najib a “Selamat Hari Raya” at the end of their conversation.

The girl was diagnosed with bone cancer two years ago and has since undergone 12 surgeries.

“She is in constant pain and needs morphine to cope with the effects of the cancer,” said Kpl Samsudin.

Commending Nur Atikah Bazilah for her bravery, Dr Zambry said she had shown great strength in overcoming her pain merely to talk to Najib.
